Our religious education program consists of a Sunday School and a Hebrew School Program. Sunday School meets twice a month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students begin at age 3 and continue until Bar and Bat Mitzvah. Our curriculum includes Torah stories, life cycle events, the importance of tzedakah, prayer, Jewish heroes, and Jewish values and ethics. We learn about and celebrate the Jewish holidays as they occur.
We have an outstanding and innovative teaching staff which includes post Bar and Bat Mitzvah student teachers. Hebrew School meets weekly for one hour on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons. Students usually begin this program in the third grade and continue until their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. There is also a weekly Adult Beginning Hebrew Class which meets on Thursday evenings.
To prepare for their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, students work with a mentor in addition to working with Rabbi Jay. We have a weekly lay-led Torah study from 10-Noon on Saturday mornings (unless there is a Saturday morning service). It is usually followed by Kiddush and a vegetarian potluck lunch. The atmosphere of the school and the Shul is “haimish” (warm and welcoming). Because we are relatively small, each person and family counts, and can make a difference.
