Some resources and wishes and reminders during this time of challenge

March 14, 2020 by Shalom Bayit

First, a message from a member:

Dear Ones,And I now send it to you.

I’m missing being with you this minute, and glad that we are cherishing each other and keeping everyone as safe as we can.

in love,

Carol

Pandemic

What if you thought of it

as the Jews consider the Sabbath—

the most sacred of times?

Cease from travel.

Cease from buying and selling.

Give up, just for now,

on trying to make the world

different than it is.

Sing. Pray. Touch only those

to whom you commit your life.

Center down.

And when your body has become still,

reach out with your heart.

Know that we are connected

in ways that are terrifying and beautiful.

(You could hardly deny it now.)

Know that our lives

are in one another’s hands.

(Surely, that has come clear.)

Do not reach out your hands.

Reach out your heart.

Reach out your words.

Reach out all the tendrils

of compassion that move, invisibly,

where we cannot touch.

Promise this world your love–

for better or for worse,

in sickness and in health,

so long as we all shall live.

–Lynn Ungar 3/11/20

We Will Pause Until Passover

As we have let you all know, we are taking a "rest" from all formal events sponsored by the JCCO/Congregation Shalom Bayit. Yet, we are here for you. If you need support– food, supplies, transportation, connection– reach out and let us know. Our hearts are together, even if we cannot physically be together for a short while. Below are some resources to consider:

Virtual Shabbat Resources from Reconstructing Judaism:

Thanks to our decision to affilliate, we have a wealth of resources and support from the larger RJ community.

Check the reconstructingjudaism.org website for all kinds of ways to stay connected and get support.

Specifically, while we are on hiatus from services, there are great links to ritual, news and learning available to us — check out the Virtual Shabbat Box!

And now for a happy message on behalf of a member of our community– Thank you for all the support!

Aliza and her family are so appreciative of the donations to the gofundme and the bake sale purchases. We thought you’d like to see the parents of the pup that will be born… soon… and be trained to support Aliza on her path to independent adulthood! (See photos below)

The JCCO/Congregation Shalom Bayit has chosen to help one of our members in her quest to secure a Diabetic Alert Dog. A donation was made from one of our restricted funds on her behalf and we are inviting you to consider if you can help in her effort. Here is the link to her gofundme page:

You are not obligated to donate, but if you can help spread the word or want to help, we know the family will be greatly appreciative!

Passover Planning

We hope and pray that by Passover the pandemic will have passed over us and we can resume community functions.

Let’s go ahead and plan to gather for the Community Seder on April 9th at CSB.
